Responsibilities
- Observe and interpret heart monitor rhythm strips and EKGs for patients on Telemetry units.
- Document arrhythmias and report findings immediately to the Registered Nurse, unit, or rapid response team.
- Run rhythm strips for each patient at the start of the shift and whenever rhythm changes occur.
- Perform EKGs on patients as needed.
- Update patient records in Meditech and place EKG strips in patient charts.
- Clean and maintain EKG machines and heart monitors.
- Alert appropriate personnel when equipment requires maintenance or repair.
- Monitor up to 40 patients simultaneously during a shift.
- Notify the unit in the event of lead failure.
- Troubleshoot central monitor malfunctions.
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, including checking vital signs.
- Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas.
- Prepare patients for exams and procedures.
- Collect and process specimens.
- Perform phlebotomy.
- Maintain medical inventory in treatment areas.
- Pursue continuing medical education.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to safety, emergency, and infection control policies.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- BLS certification.
- Basic Arrhythmia Class with Certificate.
- EKG certification.
- 1 year of experience.
