About the Role
Intercept is a philanthropic initiative focused on radically reducing the burden of respiratory infections through advancements in air-cleaning technologies and broad-spectrum preventatives. This role will be instrumental in building the investment function, sourcing and executing investments, and managing a portfolio of companies aimed at developing critical technologies.
Responsibilities
- Expand the pipeline of candidates by engaging networks of researchers, investors, founders, and funders.
- Source and screen investment and grant opportunities through various channels, including RFPs and referrals.
- Own projects through diligence and transaction execution, evaluating scientific quality, development plans, team, and fit against the target product profile.
- Drive the investment or grantmaking process, coordinating with internal and external legal and diligence consultants.
- Act as the internal owner and champion for projects through internal approval processes.
- Develop points of view on technologies, identifying key 'gating datapoints' for investment decisions.
- Build and maintain a CRM to systematically capture and track potential projects.
- Support portfolio projects post-investment to accelerate product development and remove bottlenecks.
- Map demand-side bottlenecks across regulatory, clinical, recommendations, reimbursement, and adoption/uptake.
- Lead investments independently, manage investment teams, and generate new investment theses.
- Contribute to the capital deployment plan based on a clear point of view of promising approaches.
Requirements
- MD/PhD in immunology or infectious disease with 2+ years of investing, BD/partnering, or grantmaking experience OR minimum 5 years of biotech investor experience in immunology or infectious disease at a VC fund.
- Experience with portfolio management, including portfolio construction and post-award management.
- Ability to translate scientific diligence into strategic investment recommendations and a coherent capital deployment view.
- Product development experience or broad exposure via investing in or supporting companies.
- Experience with project management from launch to completion, acting as a project quarterback.
- Extremely self-directed, diligent, fast learner, excellent communicator, and action-oriented.
- Compelled by the mission to reduce the burden of and risks from respiratory viruses.
