About the Role
The Global Macro Strategy team in London is seeking a senior associate to support their research efforts. This role involves analyzing financial market and economic data to generate thematic trade ideas for hedge funds and real money investors, and contributing to Citi’s monthly asset allocation. The position offers opportunities to write independent reports and collaborate with global teams.
Responsibilities
- Developing broad macro themes, cross-asset class analysis, and trade ideas for leveraged and macro-oriented investors.
- Conducting top-down analysis in Rates, FX, Equity, Credit, and Commodity markets for developed and emerging countries and regions using linear and non-linear derivatives.
- Back-testing trading and investment strategies.
- Constructing macro and leading indicators for financial markets.
- Formulating macro fair value models.
- Staying up-to-date and implementing academic insights within the global macro space.
- Becoming an integral part of Citi’s macro research department.
- Working with teams based in NY and Asia, and with Citi’s asset class specialists.
- Assisting with client inquiries and requests (internal and external).
- Engaging in Citi’s broader corporate objectives, such as recruitment and training of junior analysts.
- Securing and maintaining applicable licenses and regulatory approval.
- Appropriately assessing risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behaviour, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Requirements
- Experience in top-down macro analysis.
- Experience working with financial market data is an absolute pre-requisite.
- Ability to work independently and understand the nuances of various financial market time series (fixed income vs. equities).
- Advanced econometric skillset.
- Knowledge of appropriate tools and techniques for a given type of analysis.
- Strong programming skills: Python is required.
- Ability to succinctly and clearly articulate complex concepts to a broad audience.
- Ability to work on a team and to work well under pressure, meeting tight deadlines for a weekly publication schedule.
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven team player.
- Self-starter, used to working in a team environment with ambition to progress career within macro research.
- Awareness that the role is a Certified Role, subject to the FCA and PRA Certification Regime.
- Assessment against Fit and Proper requirements through interviews, self-disclosures, criminal record checks, regulated reference checks, credit checks, and other background screening checks.
