About the Role

This Equipment Repair Technician position offers a great opportunity for you to combine your journey level mechanical experience and your excellent diagnostic skills in maintaining the Light/Heavy Equipment Fleet for ADOT and the State of Arizona. This position is part of a series that offers the opportunity for career advancement through our Criteria Based Promotion (CBP) program.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various types of machinery and equipment including automotive, light equipment and/or heavy duty equipment.
• Performing repairs in accordance with accepted automotive service/repair industry standards and agency policy.
• Inspecting a variety of vehicles/equipment to identify repairs and adjustments necessary for safe operation.
• Performing scheduled preventive maintenance services, including lube and oil change, tire repair and mounting, and minor repairs/adjustments.
• Interpreting manufacturer specifications.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid driver's license during the period of employment.
• EPA Section 609 Certification or the ability to obtain the certification within six months of employment.
• Must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
• Must maintain acceptable driving records and complete all required driver training.
• Must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

• Electronic control systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
• Computerized diagnostic analyzer use procedures and practices.
• Hydraulic systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
• Operating principles of gasoline and diesel powered internal combustion engines.
• Fleet maintenance shop safety principles and practices.
• Record keeping principles and practices.
• Repairing and maintaining mechanical, electrical, electronic and automotive/heavy construction equipment.
• Operating computerized diagnostic analyzer equipment.
• Estimating time cost of repair maintenance work for a wide variety of automotive/heavy construction equipment.
• Scheduling/coordinating automotive/heavy construction equipment service and repair to maximize utilization.
• Repairing, rebuilding, and overhauling mechanical, electrical, electronic, and/or hydraulic systems in a wide variety of automotive/light/heavy construction equipment.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Interpret repair manuals, service bulletins and recall bulletins.
• Utilize a PC and PC programs such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Manage time effectively.
• Diagnose issues quickly and accurately, and determine the best course of action to fix them.
• Prioritize tasks efficiently, especially in high-demand environments where equipment downtime needs to be minimized.
• Lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull 90 lbs; pass a physical exam.

Salary/Compensations

• $46,394 - $56,394
• Anticipated Salary: $51,394.00
