About the Role
The Department of Biology seeks a full-time, 9-month Laboratory Specialist to assist with introductory-level lecture and laboratory courses, and teach introductory biology laboratory courses as needed. This is a 9-month term position from September 1 through May 30.
Responsibilities
- Teach introductory biology laboratory sections each semester as needed.
- Assist with curriculum development and course management to integrate high-enrollment introductory-level lecture courses with associated small-group laboratory sections.
- Serve as the primary liaison for introductory lecture courses by proctoring exams, grading Scantron assessments, responding to student logistical inquiries, hiring and supervising teaching assistants in collaboration with the course professor, attending lecture sessions, and maintaining and updating Canvas course sites.
- Collaborate with Barnard faculty on pedagogy, research, and other departmental initiatives during the summer.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects independently.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team of biology faculty and staff.
- Prior experience with teaching, curriculum development, or academic program management is preferred.
