About the Role

Shimmick is seeking a motivated Field Engineer Intern for their Electrical Division (Axia). This internship offers opportunities to develop engineering judgment and professional skills while contributing to significant infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assignments requiring standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Exercise judgment in selecting and adapting engineering alternatives.
  • Prepare engineering calculations and develop drawings.
  • Assist with field inspections of work performed and materials used.
  • Support construction administration and documentation of deficiencies.
  • Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior team member.
  • Research and compile project information for reports, marketing, and funding.
  • Create and maintain centralized project record files.
  • Coordinate logistics and meetings for project managers.
  • Attend and take minutes for development team meetings.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly development reports.
  • Support community outreach duties as needed.
  • Attend neighborhood, community, and project meetings.
  • Undertake assigned tasks from project managers.
  • Understand project budgets and assist in their creation and adherence.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Intent to continue enrollment after the internship.
  • Completed at least 1 year of study.
  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing, and standard office software.
  • Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software (e.g., CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models).
  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage changing deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • Does not include sponsorship for United States Work Authorization.
