About the Role

Shimmick is seeking a motivated Field Engineer Intern for its Northwest Division. This role involves applying standard engineering techniques, assisting with field inspections, construction administration, and project documentation. The intern will work under supervision, research project information, maintain project files, coordinate logistics, and assist with budget adherence.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assignments requiring standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Exercise judgment in developing details of work and selecting engineering alternatives.
  • Prepare engineering calculations and develop drawings and visual aids.
  • Assist with field inspections to evaluate work performed and materials used.
  • Assist with construction administration and documentation of deficiencies and deviations from plans.
  • Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
  • Research and compile project information for reporting, marketing, and funding requests.
  • Create and maintain centralized files for project records (including digital).
  • Coordinate logistics and meetings for project managers.
  • Attend and take minutes for the development team as requested.
  • Help prepare reports, including monthly development reports.
  • Assist with community outreach duties as needed.
  • Attend neighborhood, community, and project meetings.
  • Undertake tasks as assigned by project managers.
  • Understand project budgets and assist in their creation and adherence.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field with the intent to continue enrollment after an internship.
  • Completed at least 1 year of study.
  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing, and standard office software.
  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (e.g., CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models).
  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and consistent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage changing deadlines and work well under pressure for multiple team leaders.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • Does not include sponsorship for United States Work Authorization.
