About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Middle Office professional to manage and execute daily support for EU physical natural gas activities. This role involves P&L reporting, storage contract management, imbalance handling, and invoicing/settlements, ensuring commercial accuracy, robust controls, and timely reporting to key departments.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and explain daily P&L for physical gas portfolios, including realised vs unrealised, accruals, provisions, and timing differences.
  • Analyze drivers of P&L, such as price moves, volume revisions, FX, fees, losses, and constraints.
  • Validate trade capture and market data, resolving discrepancies with Front Office and IT.
  • Support month-end close activities, including reconciliations, journal entries, commentary, and audit trail documentation.
  • Maintain controls for valuation inputs like indexation, resettlements, and true-ups.
  • Ensure accurate capture of storage fees and optionality components.
  • Support dispute resolution for storage statements and fees with counterparties.
  • Provide imbalance reporting, root-cause analysis, and escalate issues to Trading/Scheduling.
  • Own end-to-end invoicing support for physical gas deliveries and services, including volume/price validation and reconciliation.
  • Manage query logs and resolve invoicing disputes.
  • Reconcile counterparty statements with internal records and escalate significant discrepancies.
  • Support credit/collections by providing accurate contractual and operational evidence.
  • Maintain high-quality reference data for points, hubs, TSOs, products, units, calendars, and tax fields.
  • Develop and maintain reporting tools using Excel/VBA, Power Query, SQL, or Python.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in EU physical natural gas middle office operations with a strong understanding of the physical gas trade lifecycle.
  • Experience with storage contract economics and operational constraints.
  • Comfort with imbalance/cash-out concepts and allocation processes.
  • Ability to manage and discuss P&L attribution and reconciliation in a commodities context.
  • Familiarity with ETRM systems and statement/invoice workflows.
  • Strong Excel skills (pivoting, lookups; VBA desirable) and ability to handle large datasets.
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and reconciliation capabilities.
  • Clear communication skills, capable of producing concise P&L and operational commentary.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and multiple stakeholders.
