About the Role

The appointed counsellor will work closely with counselling colleagues and also colleagues in the wider team and university, to provide a professional, high-calibre and culturally competent specialist integrative student counselling service.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct counselling assessments, including the assessment of risk.
  • Provide on-going counselling sessions, negotiating contract length within a short-term framework.
  • Manage caseload in accordance with service guidelines and to preserve a balance of appointment type.
  • Manage student risk and complexity, liaising with internal and external support where needed.
  • Act as an active member of the counselling team and wider MDT, working on related projects as required.

Requirements

  • Qualified, accredited and experienced counsellor, able to use a number of modalities in an integrative way to support students presenting with a variety of needs.
  • Experienced in working in a higher education setting.
  • Experienced in working with short term client contracts.
  • Experienced in working in a flexible way dependent upon the needs of the student and the service.
  • Proven experience of working with at risk and complex clients.
  • Able to demonstrate high level judgement skills.
  • Experience of working online is essential.
  • Experience of working as part of a MDT is essential.
  • Commitment to working in an inclusive and culturally competent way.
  • Experience working with Global Majority, neurodiverse and vulnerable students.
