About the Role
The appointed counsellor will work closely with counselling colleagues and also colleagues in the wider team and university, to provide a professional, high-calibre and culturally competent specialist integrative student counselling service.
Responsibilities
- Conduct counselling assessments, including the assessment of risk.
- Provide on-going counselling sessions, negotiating contract length within a short-term framework.
- Manage caseload in accordance with service guidelines and to preserve a balance of appointment type.
- Manage student risk and complexity, liaising with internal and external support where needed.
- Act as an active member of the counselling team and wider MDT, working on related projects as required.
Requirements
- Qualified, accredited and experienced counsellor, able to use a number of modalities in an integrative way to support students presenting with a variety of needs.
- Experienced in working in a higher education setting.
- Experienced in working with short term client contracts.
- Experienced in working in a flexible way dependent upon the needs of the student and the service.
- Proven experience of working with at risk and complex clients.
- Able to demonstrate high level judgement skills.
- Experience of working online is essential.
- Experience of working as part of a MDT is essential.
- Commitment to working in an inclusive and culturally competent way.
- Experience working with Global Majority, neurodiverse and vulnerable students.
