About the Role
Episcopal Community Services (ECS) is seeking a Services Coordinator to support participants experiencing homelessness, behavioral health conditions, substance use challenges, and other difficult life circumstances. This client-facing role requires direct service delivery and involves supporting the routine operation of the Shelter by administering resident intake and monitoring for safety and order. The position offers a meaningful opportunity to provide participants with orientations, engage them in activities, and maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment.
Responsibilities
- Administer resident intake and monitor floors for safety and order.
- Provide participants with meaningful orientation about Shelter programs and services.
- Engage participants in Shelter activities.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for all participants.
- Check the interior and exterior of the building on a regularly-assigned schedule to maintain a clean, safe environment.
- Inspect facilities to maintain security and program compliance.
- Maintain Shelter Operation Logs according to procedure.
- Perform all duties within the parameters of the Shelter Policy and Procedure Manual and all Standards of Care policies.
- Help orient all participants to program rules and responsibilities.
- Apply Shelter rules and regulations in a fair and equitable manner.
- Maintain Shelter records accurately, completely, and legibly.
- Answer phones, take messages, and attend to requests for information professionally.
- Maintain client computer records according to HSA and Shelter procedures.
- Assist Shelter and client volunteers.
- Complete and submit maintenance requests to the Facilities Manager.
- Respond to all participant requests and questions professionally and courteously.
- Immediately report any problems to Supervisor(s) or Manager(s) in accordance with Shelter policies and procedures.
- Attend and participate in daily shift change meetings.
- Maintain a clean and healthy environment for participants, including stripping beds and clearing lockers and sleeping areas as assigned.
- Ensure paperwork is complete and workspace is cleaned and organized at the end of every shift.
- Collect, tag, store, and dispose of participant property according to Shelter policies and procedures.
- Honor and abide by Agency rules of confidentiality.
- Encourage participants to engage in groups, activities, and Shelter outings.
- Act as a decision-maker for critical incidents relating to Shelter operation when the Supervisor is offsite.
- Facilitate groups, workshops, and client meetings as needed.
- Refer clients to the SF-START team and prepare START intake forms as needed.
- Attend staff meetings or trainings outside of regular work hours as needed.
- Participate in all applicable staff trainings and staff meetings.
- Perform all other duties as assigned and required.
Requirements
- Must hold either a High School Diploma or a GED equivalent.
- Minimum of six months experience working in a position with extensive customer service and interaction with the public.
- Experience working with homeless adults is crucial.
- Must have strong communication skills.
- Must have a comprehension of ethics in social services.
- Must have good general counseling and active listening skills.
- Must have proven problem-solving and crisis resolution skills.
- Must demonstrate excellent cultural competency.
- Must prove excellent reading and writing skills.
- Must possess prior paid experience working with homeless populations that use harm-reduction models.
- Prior work with mental health, disabilities, or substance abuse issues is preferred.
- Must be able to meet physical requirements, including long periods of sitting, lifting up to 40 pounds, reaching, bending, and stooping.
- Must be able to travel to and from ECS sites.
- Must honor and abide by Agency rules and regulations, including confidentiality.
