About the Role
Direct Support Professionals support individuals by promoting their character, choices, strengths, interests, and needs while ensuring a safe, healthy, and clean environment. They plan, coordinate, and implement meaningful activities daily to foster independence, inclusion, and productivity.
Responsibilities
- Respect and maintain the confidentiality of the person served.
- Demonstrate a positive and caring attitude towards persons served, families, and staff.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement meaningful daily activities, including daily living, personal care, and person-centered activities that promote independence, inclusion, and productivity.
- Complete all tasks necessary to ensure the health and safety of each person receiving services.
- Safely transport people following proper procedures when approved to drive.
- Perform daily site cleaning, food preparation, and laundry as needed.
- Assist persons served in social/recreational activities and implementation of monthly activity calendars in Site Based or Recreational Respite settings.
- Assist in homework assignments as needed.
- Complete daily documentation and other paperwork promptly and accurately according to OPWDD and agency standards.
- Attend and participate in general staff meetings, in-service training, and other pertinent agency meetings/trainings.
- Maintain compliance with agency-mandated in-service and online trainings.
- Exhibit flexibility to work assignments as needed at the agency within shift and/or other availability.
- Perform CPR and Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-R).
- Record time worked at the start and end of each shift and work the minimum number of accepted hours hired for.
- Administer medications and follow proper procedures as required.
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid Driver's License that meets agency policy.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend plans and documentation.
- Basic computer skills necessary for communication and documentation.
- Ability to meet physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and climbing.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Ability to support persons receiving services with repositioning, lifting, and transferring as required by their person-centered plan.
- Physical agility and ability to react to emergency situations.
- Certification in CPR.
- Part-time Direct Support Professionals are required to work a minimum of 16 hours per week and not more than 29 hours per week unless otherwise specified by program.
