About the Role
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will be passionate about helping others, dedicated to protecting a person’s rights, and willing to offer genuine friendship. You will change the lives of developmentally disabled individuals by providing a solid support system. DSPs are strong, compassionate individuals dedicated to creating a better world for others.
Responsibilities
- Help individuals have meaningful lives, listen to their dreams, and help them learn skills to live the lives they choose.
- Encourage individuals to express what is important to them and involve them in activities matching their interests, goals, and dreams.
- Assist individuals in developing and maintaining positive community relationships.
- Respect the rights of individuals and teach them to advocate for themselves.
- Utilize a person-centered philosophy and treat each moment as a teachable one.
- Understand individuals by listening and observing what is important to them.
- Maintain a positive attitude toward work and others.
- Protect the health of individuals, which may include administering medication, following medical orders, attending appointments, and seeking emergency care.
- Ensure the safety of individuals by providing the level of supervision outlined in their service plan.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid driver’s license preferred, depending on program needs.
- Some experience in healthcare or human services is a plus.
