About the Role

The Senior Executive Director of Academics is the chief operational leader of the district’s academic systems, responsible for PK-12 curriculum, instruction, assessment, and academic programming. This role champions literacy, leading the development and execution of a comprehensive PK-12 literacy strategy to promote achievement and a culture of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a key member of the Chief Academic Officer’s leadership team.
  • Acts as the chief operational leader of the district’s academic systems.
  • Holds districtwide responsibility for PK–12 curriculum, instruction, assessment, and academic programming.
  • Oversees the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of high-quality instructional systems.
  • Advances language and literacy outcomes.
  • Serves as the district’s primary champion for literacy.
  • Leads the development and execution of a comprehensive PK-12 literacy strategy.
  • Promotes literacy achievement, language development, and a culture of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking.
  • Fosters partnerships and initiatives that strengthen literacy engagement beyond the classroom.
  • Provides direct supervision, evaluation, and performance management of Executive Directors.
  • Oversees a multi-tiered leadership structure.
  • Ensures alignment, coherence, and performance across all academic departments and initiatives.
  • Translates the district’s instructional vision into actionable, systemwide strategy.
  • Establishes and enforces expectations for implementation.
  • Builds organizational capacity to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Ensures academic systems are data-driven, equity-centered, and anchored in strong language and literacy practices.
  • Strengthens alignment between central office strategy and school-based execution.
  • Serves as a visible advocate for literacy excellence.
  • Helps build districtwide commitment to improving literacy outcomes for all students.
  • Ensures literacy remains a central driver of academic achievement and opportunity.
