About the Role
Volunteers at this outpatient facility will provide general support to patients and staff in the lobby, chemo, or Radiation Oncology areas. Applicants must be open to serving in any of these areas based on current needs.
Responsibilities
- Offer a warm welcome by greeting patients, families, and visitors.
- Help with wayfinding by escorting visitors to their destinations, providing wheelchair transport to patients, or answering general questions.
- Assist with communication between patients, clinic front desk staff, nurses, and treatment teams as a liaison.
- Update patients on wait times, provide locker room/changing instructions, and escort patients to their appointments.
- Provide non-clinical comfort items such as warm blankets, water, or ice.
- Help staff keep the unit clean and organized, ensuring patient changing rooms are tidy, wiping down equipment with germicide wipes, or moving patient handling devices as directed by staff.
Requirements
- Age 16+
- Able to commit to a weekly 3-hour shift for at least 6 months
- If a former or current MSK patient, must be out of active treatment for at least one year
- Friendly and comfortable engaging with patients, families, and staff
- Reliable, independent, people-oriented
- Must be flexible and willing to support areas as directed
- Onboarding must be completed within 30 days to stay active in the program
