About the Role
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Canada is seeking a Planned Giving Officer to oversee all aspects of the planned giving unit, including marketing, donor stewardship, estate administration, and mass marketing integration. This role involves cultivating relationships with donors, aligning their philanthropic goals with MSF's mission of providing medical humanitarian aid worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead the Planned Giving Officer, Estate Officer, and Planned Giving Coordinator.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and industry knowledge to lead donor management, stewardship, and acquisition strategies for the planned giving unit.
- Develop and research best practices for legacy giving recruitment and stewardship.
- Increase revenue from mid-level, major, corporate/foundation, and planned gifts to meet strategic plan objectives.
- Lead MSF Canada's organizational performance management cycle for the planned giving unit, including budgeting, annual planning, and quarterly reporting.
- Ensure responsible use of resources, including budget, contracts, and vendors.
- Recommend new strategies or develop proposals for future needs.
- Work with legal specialists to ensure cash flow, minimize delays in estate distributions, and manage contested estates.
- Possess in-depth knowledge and understanding of estate law and expertise in advising trustees and holding estate lawyers/notaries accountable.
- Collaborate with the fundraising systems unit to support the development of a data-driven fundraising strategy and program.
Requirements
- Experience in non-profit management, business administration, marketing, communications, finance, or law.
- Demonstrated fundraising experience with a strong focus on managing a planned giving portfolio in diverse settings such as charities, NGOs, or the financial sector.
- Proven ability to lead donor acquisition and legacy marketing campaigns, including overseeing multi-channel strategies and audience segmentation.
- Experience managing relationships with third-party vendors and external legal counsel, ensuring compliance and efficiency in planned giving operations.
- Track record of maintaining clear performance metrics and achieving fundraising goals in a planned and legacy giving program.
- Demonstrated success in leading and growing diverse teams, including direct reports, while fostering a positive work environment, providing constructive feedback, and implementing professional development initiatives.
- Skills in strategic stewardship, high-net-worth individuals management, and collaboration with financial advisory, wealth management, and estate law specialists.
- Experience managing CRM systems and donor databases for tracking prospective stewardship, performance, and reporting.
- Aptitude for working with complex financial instruments and tax laws related to charitable giving while collaborating with donors and legal specialists.
- Proficiency in English is mandatory.
- Proficiency in French is desirable.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada; MSF Canada cannot support or relocate candidates from outside Canada.
