About the Role
Design Engineers transform client concepts into custom-built products by leveraging engineering expertise and fabrication knowledge. This role involves creating manufacturable designs, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring project profitability and feasibility from concept to installation.
Responsibilities
- Ensure designs are profitable and within established budgets
- Collaborate with internal teams to define design criteria and project objectives
- Generate accurate SolidWorks models and drawings adhering to company standards
- Create detailed bills of materials and parts lists for production and purchasing
- Incorporate knowledge of shop machines, tooling, and processes into designs
- Validate designs for feasibility, manufacturability, and alignment with client requirements
- Manage work within billable hour constraints using ERP and project management tools
- Provide technical expertise to project managers, account managers, and sales teams
- Translate conceptual sketches or imagery into comprehensive assemblies and production plans
- Select materials based on project specifications and industry best practices
- Consider logistics and site conditions during the design process
- Take direction from senior team members
- Execute work in a timely and efficient manner
- Communicate clearly and openly
Requirements
- Understanding of architectural and mechanical drawings
- Knowledge of manufacturing and finishing processes
- Familiarity with a wide variety of materials including metals, woods, and plastics
- Understanding of structural steel design and fabrication
- Ability to work independently
- Previous experience as a builder, fabricator, tradesperson, or installer is preferred
