About the Role
The Business Development Lead Expert is a senior commercial leader responsible for driving platform-level growth across the company's distributed generation platform. This individual contributor will identify, evaluate, and execute opportunities in key markets, devise entry strategies into new regional markets, and win new business across Commercial & Industrial (C&I), Front-of-the-Meter (FTM), Community Solar, and battery energy storage (BESS). This role serves as a market expansion strategist and commercial architect, helping shape where and how the company pursues growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead assessment of emerging regional markets and recommend go-to-market strategies for C&I solar, community solar, FTM storage, and other distributed generation opportunities.
- Lead high-value, complex B2B sales cycles to close seven-figure solar and BESS offtake transactions with wholesale electricity customers and corporate offtakers.
- Originate, negotiate, and structure Joint Development Agreements (JDAs), framework agreements, and partnerships with corporate offtakers, local developers, brokers, and technology providers to expand pipeline velocity.
- Provide advanced analytical, technical, and strategic support during the contracting and development of solar and battery storage assets.
- Partner closely with internal stakeholders to ensure sustainable pipeline growth and project execution.
- Drive deals through internal approval processes by compiling institutional documentation and managing relationships with multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
- Proactively propose and complete continuous improvement initiatives to optimize commercial workflows and platform performance.
Requirements
- Ability to execute complex B2B offtake negotiations combined with practical development experience across both solar and BESS.
- Ability to evaluate new geographic markets, assess commercial viability, and translate market intelligence into actionable growth strategies.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in the renewable energy industry, specifically within distributed generation, C&I solar, or energy storage.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of demonstrated transaction closing experience handling complex B2B sales cycles for seven-figure ($1M+) clean energy deals.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of distributed solar and BESS development, including interconnection processes, utility tariffs, permitting considerations, project commercialization, and market-entry evaluation.
- Proven experience working with financial investors, equipment manufacturers, utilities, and consultants to navigate multi-disciplinary, cross-functional projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce (or equivalent CRM/pipeline tracking tools).
- Very strong collaboration, communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented focus.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management and other parts of the project including technical staff.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and successfully complete them within specified timeframes.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal direction in both structured and unstructured work environments.
- Demonstrate ability to lead cross-functional, multi-departmental teams.
- Strong organizational, communications, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise preferred.
