About the Role

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for implementing person-centered services for each individual, ensuring their goals and outcomes are met through program-based and community inclusion activities. The DSP is solely responsible for the individual's overall physical and emotional well-being. This is an ON-CALL position for residential programs, requiring flexibility as schedules are not permanent and coverage is based on program needs.

Responsibilities

Provide support and services including advocating for, encouraging, guiding, and teaching individuals in expressing personal choice.
Ensure community integration for individuals.
Assist individuals with personal hygiene care, toileting, lifts and transfers, dining, dressing, and meal preparation.
Help individuals participate in games and recreational programs.
Coach and encourage individuals to develop daily living skills.
Provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
Collaborate with other staff to implement and record care plans.
Administer medication in accordance with special instructions.
Act to ensure the health and safety of individuals in emergency situations.
Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and on-site workshops.
Attend external training and workshops as directed.
Maintain certification in AMAP, CPR, First Aid, and SCIP.
Promote and support the inclusion of individuals in their community according to their unique needs, interests, and desires.
Model and encourage interaction between individuals and community members.
Foster individuals’ personal growth by assisting in forming and maintaining friendships.
Help with transporting individuals or assist them in taking public transportation.
Assist in maintaining positive communications with family members, advocates, and service providers.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, CNA certification, or Direct Support Professional (DSP) certificate.
One year or more work experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
Excellent written, communication, and mathematical skills.
Valid NYS driver license preferred but not required.
A flexible work schedule.
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, bend, stretch, and lift bedridden and/or incapacitated individuals.

Salary/Compensations

$19.00 - $21.00 Hourly
Additional compensation may be available based on driving responsibilities, required certifications (e.g., AMAP), and length of time in the role.
Pay increases based on certifications, training completion, and job performance.
Total compensation package may include a bi-annual discretionary bonus.
