About the Role
The Driver Trainer position is responsible for ensuring the timely completion of training requirements for drivers within the service area. This role upholds On Lok and industry driver safety standards by leading new hire and remedial training sessions, performing internal audits and random field checks of safety procedures, and assisting with fleet maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Train new drivers as well as conduct corrective action training.
- Perform and model safe operation of vehicles while transporting participants.
- Conduct audits and field checks to assist with ensuring vehicles receive timely preventative and ongoing maintenance.
- Ensure participant and vehicle safety through van maintenance, pre-trip inspections, use of seatbelts, body mechanics, transfer training and wheelchair safety.
- Perform ongoing random driver field checks in the assigned service area.
- Ensure completion of regular Driver Safety and agility training; provide administrative support to track and document completed training.
- Report safety concerns and remediation recommendations to the Transportation Manager and Director of Transportation immediately.
- Ensure delivery of quality of services through adherence to policies and procedures; includes maintaining participant safety standards.
Requirements
- Licensed California Driver with clean driving record (no more than 1 point in previous 5 years).
- 7 years of experience in paratransit environment.
- At least one year of experience delivering formal or informal training or mentoring.
- At least one year of administrative tracking/auditing/monitoring vehicle maintenance program.
- Ability to operate all vehicles of On Lok; has some basic mechanical ability and understands the maintenance program for vehicles.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of both drivers and riders.
- Flexible and conscientious.
- Compassionate and open to working directly with frail elderly people from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrates mature judgment, patience and problem-solving skills.
- Understands and carries out oral and written directions; ability to write and maintain logs.
- Experience and comfort using transportation technology.
- Familiarity with traffic routes and driving regulations in SF Bay Area.
