About the Role

The Omni Berkshire Place is seeking a skilled individual to maintain and repair mechanical equipment in a luxury New York City hotel. This role involves ensuring the efficient and safe operation of boilers, refrigeration systems, HVAC, and other building systems.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters, and charts to ensure proper boiler operation.
  • Switch from automatic to manual controls and isolate equipment for safe inspection and repair.
  • Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activities.
  • Monitor and inspect equipment to detect leaks or malfunctions and ensure safe operation.
  • Analyze problems and take appropriate action to ensure continuous equipment and system operation.
  • Clean and lubricate boilers and auxiliary equipment, making minor adjustments.
  • Perform or arrange for repairs, including overhauls and replacement of parts.
  • Operate or tend stationary engines, boilers, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Activate valves to maintain water levels, adjust combustion air, and control fuel flow.
  • Test boiler water quality and take corrective action.
  • Adjust controls and valves on equipment to regulate operations.
  • Monitor boiler water, chemical, and fuel levels and make adjustments.
  • Weigh, measure, and record fuel used.
  • Install burners and auxiliary equipment.
  • Contact equipment manufacturers or specialists to resolve problems.
  • Provide assistance to plumbers in repairing or replacing lines and in daily maintenance.
  • Test electrical systems to determine voltages.
  • Develop operation, safety, and maintenance procedures.
  • Check air quality of ventilation systems and make adjustments.
  • Investigate and report on accidents.
  • Receive instructions from steam engineers regarding plant operations.
  • Supervise the work of assistant stationary engineers, operators, and mechanics.
  • Operate mechanical hoppers and provide assistance in their adjustment and repair.

Requirements

  • Must have a low-pressure license.
  • Must have experience in boilers.
  • Must have pumps, compressor, plumbing, copper piping experience.
  • Must have knowledge of electrical experience in commercial refrigeration.
  • Must have experience troubleshooting refrigeration equipment in kitchens and air handlers.
  • Experience in thermostat controls, pressure gauges, and control valves.
  • Experience in elevators, exhaust systems, grease traps, and steam traps troubleshooting and repair.
  • Must have basic knowledge of all power tools.
  • Able to climb, crawl, and work under pressure in demanding situations.
  • Not afraid of heights and able to work in confined areas.
  • Able to work in boiler rooms under extreme heat.
  • Understanding of basic evacuation procedures.
  • Work closely with the director of engineering on daily operations of mechanical equipment.
  • Able to work flexible shifts.
  • Experience in chiller mechanics and HVAC.
  • Understanding of basic building construction.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations according to building codes and fire safety.
  • Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs.
