About the Role
The Crisis Centre Staff provides a person-centred, supportive psychosocial response to individuals experiencing mental health or addiction crises, focusing on crisis resolution, empowerment, and community support linkage.
Responsibilities
- Complete mental health and addiction assessments using crisis management theory
- Identify psychiatric symptom impact, safety risk factors, and de-escalation opportunities
- Establish therapeutic relationships to maximize engagement
- Provide short-term follow-up support to bridge gaps to long-term services
- Coordinate and facilitate referrals to internal and external supports
- Advocate for client access to necessary services
- Engage emergency services when additional intervention is required
- Assess barriers to community living such as treatment, transportation, and finances
- Provide nonjudgmental support sensitive to individual diversity
- Support development of self-advocacy, coping skills, and healthy interdependence
- Provide health teaching on grounding, breathing, self-care, nutrition, and sleep hygiene
- Deliver crisis intervention via phone, text, and web chat through the Reach Out line
- Respond to Reach Out voicemails
- Perform emergency interventions in a calm, efficient manner while maintaining privacy and dignity
- Utilize harm reduction principles to manage risk factors
- Liaise with caregivers and service providers for coordinated care
- Participate in public education and advocacy
Requirements
- College Diploma or University Degree in a mental health or addictions related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a direct-service role with some post-secondary education in mental health or addictions
- Ability to attend work regularly
- Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the last six months

- Bilingual in both official languages (preferred)

Experience Level

Salary/Compensations
- $27.14 per hour starting rate (non-regulated)
- $30.01 per hour starting rate (regulated)
- Up to $34.41 per hour (non-regulated, Level 8)
- Up to $37.26 per hour (regulated, Level 8)
