About the Role

This entry-level position is responsible for maintaining cleanliness throughout the refinery and packaging areas, as well as returning scrap product to the raw materials shed. Cleaners have the opportunity to bid into other manufacturing positions after completing the probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of packaging and process building floors and equipment
• Remove dust from process areas
• Clean food and non-food contact equipment and structural parts using specific procedures
• Lift, cut, and empty scrap sugar bags up to 20 kg, or 40 kg with a team lift
• Maneuver large buggies of reject sugar
• Operate manual hand trucks with full loads
• Mop large floor areas and operate floor washing equipment
• Follow GMP Standards, Food Safety, and Health & Safety policies
• Report unsanitary practices to the Sanitation Supervisor
• Maintain accurate tracking and record-keeping for the sanitation department
• Perform scheduled cleaning assignments and assist or train other associates

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Ability to follow simple instructions
• Ability to carry out routine but varied tasks
• Ability to operate packaging machinery and powered hand trucks
• Ability to apply proper cleaning procedures
• Understanding of WHMIS and safety practices
• Ability to work in a team and independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada on a full-time permanent basis
