About the Role
This co-op placement offers a practical learning opportunity in the reinsurance industry, providing exposure to accounting, reporting, reconciliation, and process documentation activities within the North American Reinsurance Accounting Operations team. Students will be coached, mentored, and challenged as valuable team members, contributing to meaningful work and developing a foundation for future leadership.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the review and organization of client data and accounting support files.
- Support basic reconciliations and follow up on simple variances under supervision.
- Help prepare working papers used in the quarterly close process.
- Support the tracking of outstanding items, open queries, and follow-up actions.
- Assist with maintaining accurate records for premiums, commissions, claims, or other reinsurance-related balances.
- Assist with preparing routine reports and supporting schedules for internal review.
- Help organize documentation used for management reporting and internal discussions.
- Assist with updating process documentation, checklists, and desktop procedures.
- Support process improvement activities, where appropriate.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a university or college program in Accounting, Finance, Business, Commerce, or a related field.
- Interest in accounting, financial reporting, insurance, or reinsurance operations.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Comfortable working with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage assigned tasks and deadlines.
- Good communication skills and ability to ask questions when clarification is needed.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
