About the Role
Smith+Nephew is seeking a skilled machinist to support new product development in their machine shop. This role involves manufacturing prototype parts, tools, and fixturing for the Sports Medicine and ENT business units, offering an opportunity to work on next-generation products.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate unique, low volume components, fixtures and tooling with minimal supervision from complete drawings or sketches, meeting all shop work order requirements.
- Program, set-up, edit programs, and run CNC machinery including milling and EDM.
- Develop fabrication and inspection processes, design tools and fixtures, and coordinate shop requests.
- Read and interpret drawings, tolerances, and other requirements, and inspect final product dimensions.
- Maintain equipment calibration, perform preventive maintenance, and conduct repairs.
- Perform regular maintenance of CNC and conventional equipment.
- Assist in ordering tooling and raw material stock for prototyping.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the shop area.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 years of machine shop experience is mandatory.
- Completion of an apprenticeship as a machinist is required.
- Senior Journeyman machinist preferred.
