About the Role
The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for delivering direct services in a residential substance abuse treatment setting and representing Outreach to outside agencies to increase referrals. This role is also responsible for client recruitment and engagement, maintaining communication with referral sources, and client assessment for community treatment.
Responsibilities
- Conducts assessments, intakes, and participates in level of care determinations.
- Completes administrative procedures for admission and assists in treatment plan development.
- Facilitates admission/referral to other programs or agencies.
- Provides individual, group, and/or family counseling services.
- Manages assigned caseload during treatment, focusing on appropriate levels of care and interventions.
- Provides backup coverage for clinical staff absences.
- Completes all needed documentation and reports in a timely manner.
- Informs Program leadership of any problems or inability to meet deadlines.
- Actively participates in staff meetings, case conferences, and unit meetings.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with referents and collateral contacts.
- Maintains communication and teamwork with clinical staff.
- Conducts toxicology testing, as needed.
- Exercises due diligence in delivering quality care in line with the agency Medicaid Compliance Plan.
- Ensures communication regarding violations of the agency’s Medicaid compliance plan and personnel policy.
Requirements
- Experience working in 822 clinics preferred.
- Experience in community outreach preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
- Flexibility in scheduling, if needed.

- CASAC, CASAC-T, CRC, LMHC, LMSW, LMFT, LCSW or higher preferred.
