About the Role
CASES' youth programs aim to help New York City's systems-impacted young people lead productive lives through individualized case management, evidence-based programming, and group activities. The Fair Futures program matches young people aged 13+ with professionally trained Coaches who provide emotional support and assist with academic, career, housing, and life goals. As a Coach Supervisor, you will support Coaches and Specialists in building relationships with young people, guiding them towards their defined success pathways, and fostering a strength-based, trauma-informed environment.
Responsibilities
- Support Coaches and Specialists in building authentic, trusting relationships with young people and their families.
- Guide Coaches and Specialists in using Motivational Interviewing techniques and the Fair Futures Coaching Language framework.
- Support Coaches and Specialists with academic and career development goal-setting processes.
- Help Coaches and Specialists navigate the DOE and other systems.
- Assist Coaches and Specialists in preventing and navigating crises.
- Monitor Coach and Specialist progress with young people through regular supervision sessions.
- Review key data in advance of supervision sessions to debrief on relationship status, crisis situations, and goal-setting progress.
- Acknowledge and celebrate Coaches and Specialists' strengths and progress.
- Identify areas for growth and provide appropriate skill development opportunities.
- Conduct team meetings with Coaches and Specialists to discuss best practices, challenges, and upcoming events.
Requirements
- A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.
- Bachelor’s degree; AND/OR a “credible messenger” (has a background in foster care, criminal legal system, or other systems-involvement), with some post-secondary experience (e.g., some college), with significant experience (4+ years) working with young people in a professional, paid role.
- Proven track record of successfully leading a team or teams.
- Experience fostering a healthy workplace culture.
- Evidence of positive programmatic impact.
- Ability to work some evening and weekend hours as needed.
- Ability to participate in in-person and virtual Teams meetings.
- Ability to meet youth and families in their homes and schools.
- Ability to accompany youth and coach team on outings via public transit or passenger van.
Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience reading reports related to programmatic data.
- Competency to use a data reporting platform.
- Ability to form collaborative, working relationships with parents/families, school and agency staff.
- Consistent and reliable.
- Able to maintain healthy boundaries.
- Strong time-management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to troubleshoot, advocate, and navigate obstacles.
- Ability to use trauma-informed techniques.
- Flexible and can work independently.

- Fair Futures is a youth-led advocacy movement and coalition of 100+ organizations advocating for young people who are system-involved in New York City.
- MAAP (Mentoring and Advocacy Program) is an individualized, strength- and advocacy-based wraparound support services program provided by mentors who work individually with youth up to 20 hours per week, based on needs of each youth, for 6 months.
