About the Role
The Compliance, AML & Privacy Manager is responsible for supporting the Company’s privacy and compliance programs, including compliance with privacy legislation, AML/ATF requirements, and regulatory expectations. This role involves monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, assessing business impacts, and implementing controls and processes. The Manager also leads risk identification, assessment, and remediation, and supports privacy and records management programs.
Responsibilities
- Assist business units to ensure operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, and current policies and procedures.
- Conduct and/or oversee compliance monitoring and testing.
- Support governance initiatives including committee reporting, policy governance, regulatory reporting, management reporting, and enterprise compliance governance frameworks.
- Conduct compliance risk assessments and rate applicable business unit risks.
- Oversee third-party risk management activities, including vendor due diligence, periodic reassessments, and ongoing monitoring.
- Manage issues and remediation activities related to laws and regulations, internal audits, and business unit identified issues.
- Research federal and provincial laws specific to auto finance, including credit, origination, servicing, collections, remarketing, and repossession.
- Make recommendations to operations management regarding process changes necessary to support regulatory changes and implement projects.
- Draft and update compliance and privacy policies and procedures.
- Develop and deploy compliance and privacy training materials.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 years’ progressive compliance, privacy, and anti-money laundering experience in the financial services industry, automotive finance preferred.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Professional degree in law, business, finance, accounting, public policy, risk management, governance, privacy or a related discipline is required.
- Licensed lawyer status is not required.
- Must possess at least one recognized compliance or AML designation (e.g., CAMS, CFCS, CRCM, CCP or equivalent).
- Must possess at least one recognized privacy designation (e.g., CIPP/C, CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM or equivalent).
- Candidates lacking one of the required designations must obtain it within 12 months of hire as a condition of continued employment.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial laws and regulations governing consumer/auto finance, anti-money laundering, and privacy.
- Understanding of privacy and data protection requirements, with experience assessing privacy risks and supporting compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations.
- Experience with AML compliance programs, including risk assessments, KYC/CDD procedures, enhanced due diligence, sanctions compliance, and regulatory reporting obligations.
- Ability to interpret global compliance frameworks and regulatory requirements and effectively localize, implement, and maintain them within the Canadian regulatory and business environment.
- Knowledge of indirect credit operational structures, processes, systems, and technology.
- Ability to partner with business units to ensure successful remediation of compliance and privacy remediation items.
- Ability to operate and execute at a high level with little to no oversight on major initiatives.
- Skilled in development of policies, procedures, and training materials, including primary administration of a policy and procedure management system.
- Skilled in vendor management and vendor due diligence at initial onboarding and on an ongoing basis, including primary administration of a policy and vendor risk management system.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills; ability to interface with team members, outside legal counsel, and business groups at all levels within the organization.
- Ability to assist with legal research and contract review and drafting from time to time.
- Ability to adapt quickly to change and deliver quality results in a timely manner.
- Ability to manage, mentor, and provide oversight to a paralegal.
- Possess a proactive, motivated, and enthusiastic attitude towards accomplishing tasks.
