About the Role

Snap Inc. is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, implement, and operate critical and scalable services, including user identity, friend graph, and core persistence layers. The role involves collaborating across teams to understand product requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver innovative solutions while advocating for best practices in availability, scalability, operational excellence, and cost management.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and operate critical and scalable services, ranging from user identity services, friend graph, and our core persistence layer.
  • Work across teams to understand product requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver solutions for innovative products.
  • Evaluate, test, and debug work, striving for high quality.
  • Advocate for and apply best practices for availability, scalability, operational excellence, and cost management.

Requirements

  • Experience with backend services or distributed systems.
  • Ability to independently execute on medium-sized features, taking several weeks and multiple PRs to complete.
  • Ability to understand the operational aspects of your system and may participate in incident or hotfix investigation and resolution.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with others.
  • Proven track record of operating highly-available systems at significant scale.

Salary/Compensations

  • Zone A (CA, WA, NYC): $118,000-$176,000 annually
  • Zone B: $112,000-$167,000 annually
  • Zone C: $100,000-$150,000 annually
