About the Role

This position is responsible for and requires proficiency in all aspects of CT scanning and patient care. The role involves performing a variety of radiologic procedures at a technical level, assuming responsibility for designated areas or procedures, and frequent contact with acutely ill patients. The role also involves exposure to interventional procedures, body fluids, and radiation.

Responsibilities

  • Educate patients on exams, complete intravenous contrast worksheets, and take allergy histories.
  • Prepare rooms with clean linen and load/arm power injectors.
  • Maintain IV start proficiency per Radiology Nurse guidelines.
  • Provide physical assistance to patients on and off the scanner table.
  • Facilitate patient flow, including prioritizing and adding on patients as needed (e.g., inpatients, emergency room patients, urgent outpatients).
  • Utilize technical expertise to acquire the highest quality diagnostic scans, adjusting technical factors for body habits, patient age, and weight.
  • Consistently produce diagnostic quality radiographs using proper technical factors and patient positioning.
  • Complete all paperwork and patient documentation accurately and in a timely manner, including exam charging, patient insurance, and maintenance of day logs, PACS, and teleradiology solutions.
  • Accurately annotate ROIs, measurements, reconstructions, and reformations.
  • Maintain good communication among team members and other departments to maximize excellent patient care.
  • Safely operate all equipment according to manufacturer's specifications and under safe radiation guidelines.
  • Follow all procedures for safe patient interactions and body mechanics.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures in the handling of hazardous materials and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self-development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D.
  • Graduation from an ARRT approved program in radiologic technology.
  • One to two years of experience in a CT department is preferred.
  • Previous radiographic experience is required.
  • Must hold a current Connecticut State license in Radiographer.
  • BLS required.
  • Must be ARRT (R) and (CT) Registered, with the exception of applicants in the cross-training program who have 10 months after completion to obtain their advanced CT Registry.
