About the Role
Join our team as a Construction Inspector to work on projects for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey within the tri-state area. You will use your technical knowledge and experience to meet the critical transportation infrastructure needs of the bi-state region’s people, businesses, and visitors. Experience working on large scale aviation and rail projects is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily inspections, supervise, and control construction activities to ensure site safety, compliance with permit conditions, and coordination with other city agencies.
- Monitor and supervise contractor performance to ensure adherence to technical requirements and maintain responsiveness.
- Conduct on-site measurements, track quantities, and perform design work before and during construction.
- Discuss measurement updates with contractors to ensure agreement.
- Accurately assess project progress and quality.
- Regularly report to the resident engineer, project lead, and professional engineer (PE) overseeing programs.
- Participate in a green infrastructure mentorship program to gain knowledge in environmentally friendly construction practices.
- Maintain daily, weekly, and expert tracking records.
- Verify quantities and line items in the field with contractors and clients.
- Hold and attend field meetings with contractors and owners to discuss progress, schedule, and work remaining.
- Function as an ambassador for the city’s urban forest resources during interactions with residents and landowners.
- Administer all H&S procedures as required by the owner and detailed in the H&S manual.
Requirements
- 2+ years of related experience in construction and/or civil engineering.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or closely related field.
- Capital Contract Supervision Oversight
- Construction/Restoration Oversight
- OSHA 10 Certification
- EIT Certification
- Experience in the water/wastewater field
