About the Role

Ducks Unlimited seeks a highly motivated biologist to join the Coastal Conservation Team to identify, develop, fund, and implement coastal wetland restoration and enhancement projects across New England to support the organization's waterfowl and wetlands conservation mission.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement coastal wetland projects on public and private lands.
  • Lead marsh restoration planning, project development, and implementation.
  • Coordinate with partners, landowners, and regulatory agencies.
  • Identify and apply for project funding and manage grants.
  • Assist engineering teams with restoration design, permitting, and implementation oversight.
  • Manage project contracts, accounting, and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with conservation partners, including municipalities, agencies, and NGOs.
  • Lead the development and submission of competitive, multi-partner grant proposals.
  • Identify and cultivate new funding opportunities through federal, state, and foundation programs.
  • Collaborate on coastal habitat conservation programs, including strategic planning, landowner outreach, and conservation easements.
  • Build and implement an effective, sustainable conservation program in coordination with regional staff.
  • Represent the organization on state and regional working groups and technical committees.
  • Support public policy objectives and coordinate with communications, administrative, and development staff.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to early-career staff.
  • Serve as a resource for federal and regional funding programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, or a related natural resources field.
  • 5-8+ years of directly related experience developing and managing wetlands restoration and enhancement projects.
  • Strong background in coastal wetland ecology and management.
  • Experience with coastal restoration techniques, modeling, hydrology, and monitoring.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and budgets.
  • Experience mentoring staff or leading small teams.
  • Excellent management, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel frequently, including overnight and out-of-state trips.
