About the Role
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead teams shaping the Convex developer and agent experience. This role involves managing the development of APIs, agent frameworks, integrations, and the component system, with the goal of making Convex the best platform for developers and agentic development.
Responsibilities
- Manage and grow teams focused on the product experience, granting engineers ownership and upholding high standards.
- Develop a deep understanding of developer and agent needs to effectively prioritize competing demands.
- Collaborate with the CTO and product lead to align team priorities and ensure timely delivery of the right features.
- Remain technically involved, contributing to architectural decisions, code reviews, and technical direction.
- Design, build, and maintain the developer-facing aspects of Convex with the teams.
- Provide direct feedback and conduct necessary difficult conversations.
- Contribute to finding simpler, more elegant solutions to problems.
Requirements
- Deep experience building and shipping high-quality developer-facing products or tools, ideally in a technical or developer tools company.
- Proven track record of growing engineers and building strong teams, beyond just shipping software.
- Genuine interest in AI's impact on software development and a clear perspective on platform needs for developers and agents.
- Strong product sensibility and taste, with a focus on user experience.
- Comfort with prioritization and tradeoffs across a broad scope, understanding customer and business needs.
- Experience in fast-moving environments with shifting requirements and underspecified problems.
- Ability to think conceptually and architecturally.
- Capacity to evaluate team's technical work and earn respect through judgment.
- Skill in developing people by providing ownership and facilitating growth.
- Ability to ensure the team understands the 'why' behind their work.
- Obsession with craft and attention to detail in user experience.
