About the Role

The Supervising Physician Specialist directs and manages the operations of a clinic, center, or program, providing clinical leadership and administrative oversight. This role involves supervising medical staff, managing budgets, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care while advancing public health goals.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee the functioning of a clinic, center, program, or patient care site.
• Assign and supervise physician specialists, health professionals, and support staff.
• Plan and direct medical staff development and in-service training activities.
• Conduct staff meetings and conferences.
• Consult with agency heads and representatives on problems and programs.
• Evaluate community needs for specialized services and plan accordingly.
• Provide medical treatment to patients, including guidance on complex cases.
• Evaluate facility, division, or program operations and efficiency.
• Develop and manage budgets for clinics or programs.
• Direct citywide public health functions within the Population Health Division.
• Develop and support leaders to strengthen a diverse workforce.
• Facilitate alignment and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Represent the Population Health Division to partners and stakeholders.
• Oversee clinic operations in community-based clinics.

Requirements

• Valid license to practice medicine issued by the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California.
• Valid Board Certification in the appropriate medical specialty area.
• Three years of post-residency experience as a practicing physician in the respective medical specialty area.
• Eligible to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal healthcare programs.
• Possess a National Provider Identifier (NPI).
• Submit a completed credentialing application and required documentation.
• Possess a valid third-party billable provider certification or have submitted an application for such status.
• Possession of valid Drug Enforcement Agency registration if required for the specific position.
