About the Role

The Residential Counselor provides clinical counseling and comprehensive case management services to clients with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, reporting to the Residential Assistant Director.

Responsibilities

• Collects and analyzes assessment data including substance use, mental health, and co-occurring disorders.
• Completes intake process and determines appropriate treatment recommendations and level of care.
• Completes psychosocial assessments.
• Develops individualized treatment plans with measurable objectives in consultation with clients and the treatment team.
• Provides individual and group counseling based on treatment plans and client needs.
• Conducts evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Matrix Model, and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
• Responds to client feedback and suggestions.
• Verifies employment and collects pay stubs and client fees.
• Monitors client savings.
• Attends to client needs in a thorough and timely manner.
• Speaks to clients with dignity and respect.
• Identifies trauma indicators and projects safety and trust.
• Conducts discharge planning with clients.
• Provides crisis intervention services as needed.
• Attends staff meetings and team conferences.
• Assures daily finger imaging.
• Monitors client whereabouts.
• Consults with legal and treatment agencies as needed.
• Recognizes and responds to high-risk factors including suicidal and homicidal ideation.
• Recognizes, responds to, and defuses volatile situations, calling for assistance or 911 when necessary.
• Acts as a liaison with networking and referring agencies.
• Monitors client compliance with medication, vocational, and medical appointments.
• Encourages family involvement when appropriate.
• Completes required documentation accurately and timely.
• Accesses records based on a "need to know" basis.
• Follows Federal, State, and Elmcor guidelines on confidentiality.
• Maintains current knowledge on counseling issues regarding substance abuse and psychosocial disorders.
• Seeks supervision and consultation as needed.
• May be required to work evenings and weekends.

Requirements

• Must have computer skills.
• Must successfully complete a criminal background check.
• Must obtain clearance from the Office of Children and Family Services.
• Must be drug free.
