About the Role
The Health Educator will implement CAPP/PREP curricula and programming at partnering schools and organizations. Conduct weekly educational health-related workshops for youth and families on adolescent sexuality, pregnancy prevention, and wellness behaviors. Conduct parent workshops to enhance communication skills for family planning and parent/child communication regarding adolescent sexual health. Provide referrals to education and support programs.
Responsibilities
- Complete orientation and training, including online implementation training, prior to delivering evidence-based programming.
- Complete training for specific evidence-based programming, if defined by the model developer.
- Deliver evidence-based programs with fidelity to youth in various settings.
- Conduct community outreach and education.
- Complete required reporting accurately and timely.
- Provide assistance and/or referrals for youth to obtain comprehensive family planning services, health services, or other essential support services.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Community-Based Organizations (CBO) and Faith-Based Organizations (FBO) providing various support services for youth.
- Work with Elmcor’s (CAPP/PREP) school partners, CBO and FBO partners to provide information sessions on adolescent sexuality topics for pregnancy prevention and improvement in life outcomes.
- Provide adult preparation subject workshops at Elmcor’s PREP2 CBO and FBO partners for caregivers to improve parent/child communications and family planning information.
- Assist to develop and improve program services to meet or exceed all contracted and/or mandated objectives and goals.
- Implement positive, youth development-focused activities supporting healthy choices, healthy lifestyles, career exploration, and cultural/educational activities.
- Complete and submit all required workshop evaluations, summary reports, and pre/post tests for each EBP cycle.
- Assist with intervention and prevention services, including community service projects and cultural/educational enrichment trips, monitoring attendance, and maintaining client records.
- Attend all meetings, trainings, collaborative efforts, and other program and agency-related functions.
- Travel to off-site locations to provide services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to facilitate discussion/teach classes to youth in a variety of settings on reproductive health topics such as reproductive anatomy, contraceptive methods, STDs, and HIV/AIDS.
- Experience working with youth and demonstrated ability to be inclusive and non-stigmatizing.
- Knowledge of and experience with the priority population to be served and the community.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.
