About the Role

As an integral member of the Neurophysiology Department, the Overnight Video-EEG Monitoring technician works at Toronto Western Hospital in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. This position offers a unique opportunity for an individual interested in developing expertise in ophthalmology, healthcare administration, research coordination, clinical innovation, and practice management while playing a meaningful role in the growth and evolution of a modern patient-centered specialty practice.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize knowledge of patient safety and seizure identification to monitor up to 10 patients simultaneously and alert Nursing staff to seizures and active safety events, as per established standards.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and ensure equipment is performing in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Prepare written hand-off reports required to document all seizure events for shift change and technologist review.
  • Participate in teaching, training, and other educational activities; perform minimal patient care responsibilities to facilitate the provision of optimal patient care.
  • Observe and understand hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality; perform cross-functional responsibilities as assigned and/or required.

Requirements

  • Completion of a community college diploma program or equivalent.
  • Digital EEG and Video EEG monitoring experience or Polysomnography experience required.
  • Epilepsy monitoring unit experience is an asset.
  • Must understand/know electrical safety standards.
  • Able to visually identify potential seizure event on EEG/Video is an asset.
  • Required to multitask, e.g., flagging seizure activity on one patient whilst still monitoring 9 others.
  • Strong decision-making skills to identify which cases warrant RN or MD intervention.
