About the Role
Schnabel is seeking a mid-level Geotechnical Engineer for their Austin, TX office to support business growth. This role offers opportunities for learning and development while solving real-world engineering problems under the guidance of senior staff.
Responsibilities
- Develop geotechnical engineering scope of services and fee estimates
- Plan and oversee geotechnical investigations
- Manage geotechnical and construction phase observation and testing field work
- Assign, review, and interpret geotechnical laboratory tests
- Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS
- Perform geotechnical engineering analysis and calculations
- Develop geotechnical engineering recommendations and write reports
- Manage project activities including resource needs, client expectations, work delegation, budgets, invoicing, and backlog reporting
- Manage client relationships and business development opportunities
- Manage and mentor junior engineers
- Collaborate with the geotechnical engineering department and other Schnabel offices to balance workload
- Perform occasional field work such as logging test borings, construction observation, and on-site client consultation
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (Master's degree preferred)
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- 5+ years of professional experience in consulting geotechnical engineering
- Proficiency with standard geotechnical engineering analysis software (e.g., LPILE, APILE, SHAFT, GeoStudio, Settle3D, FoSSA)
- AutoCAD and GIS skills for developing geotechnical deliverables
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
