About the Role
The Aviation Technical Services Manager provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and regulatory compliance for the company's specialized technical services programs across its national and international network. This includes overseeing non-destructive testing (NDT), in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) support, FedEx line maintenance operations, aircraft potable water sampling programs, and other specialized technical services. The role ensures these technical service lines operate safely, efficiently, and profitably while maintaining full compliance with Transport Canada, FAA, customer, and OEM requirements. This position is responsible for standardizing processes across multiple sites, managing technical personnel and subcontractors, developing new service offerings, and supporting business growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead all aviation technical services operations across the company's network.
- Develop standardized procedures and best practices for specialized maintenance services.
- Ensure safe, efficient, and consistent service delivery across all facilities.
- Monitor operational performance and resource utilization.
- Support the expansion of technical services capabilities into new sites and customer markets.
- Identify opportunities to expand technical services capabilities through new customer offerings, integration of emerging technologies, OEM partnerships, obtaining additional certifications, technical training, equipment investments, process improvements, and supporting strategic growth initiatives.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by supporting hazard identification, participating in risk assessments, investigating technical services incidents, implementing corrective actions, monitoring safety trends, participating in health and safety meetings, and supporting change management activities.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian Aviation Regulations, FAA regulations (when required), Approved Maintenance Organization procedures, customer maintenance requirements, OEM technical documentation, industry standards, and certification requirements, as well as regulatory and customer audits.
- Provide direction and supervision to technical specialists, including NDT personnel, IFEC technicians, water sampling personnel, FedEx line maintenance personnel, and contract technical specialists.
- Manage performance, provide technical mentorship, workforce planning, succession planning, recruitment, skills management, training supervision, and monitor 6S practices in each department.
- Participate in the development and monitoring of departmental operating budgets, capital equipment planning, preparation of investment requests and business cases, contract administration, labor utilization optimization, cost control initiatives, and profitability analysis for each technical service line.
- Lead initiatives to improve operational efficiency, service quality, standardization across all sites, technician productivity, digital processes, customer responsiveness, technical capabilities, business growth, and Lean and continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
Requirements
- Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license is an asset.
- College or university degree in aircraft maintenance, engineering, aviation management, or a related field is an asset.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in aircraft maintenance.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Experience managing specialized technical services in the aviation sector.
- Experience within a Transport Canada certified Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO).
- Experience working with FAA regulatory requirements is an asset.
- Experience managing multiple operating sites.
- Experience managing customer contracts and supplier relationships.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English.
- Availability for regular travel (approximately 20% to 30% of the time) to company facilities and customer sites across Canada and the United States.
