About the Role
The Legal Counsel serves as a trusted legal advisor, providing expertise on commercial contracting, healthcare regulatory compliance, privacy, and risk management. This role involves drafting and negotiating complex contracts, supporting compliance programs, managing licenses, and collaborating with teams to achieve business objectives while ensuring legal compliance.
Responsibilities
- Drafts, reviews, negotiates, advises business stakeholders on, and administers a broad range of commercial agreements, including pharmaceutical manufacturer rebate agreements, value-based arrangements, technology agreements, NDAs, DUAs, consulting agreements, and vendor contracts.
- Assists in the development and enhancement of contract templates, playbooks, and negotiation standards.
- Provides support and assistance to more experienced attorneys.
- Provides legal advice and strategic counsel to business stakeholders.
- Produces routine legal work product, including drafting and negotiating contracts, procuring and maintaining licenses.
- Assesses legal risks for day-to-day company legal, regulatory, and compliance matters under supervision and direction.
- Monitors legislative and regulatory activity and advises the business on the interpretation, application, and implementation of new requirements across the healthcare legal and regulatory landscape.
- Assists with dispute resolution, audits, risk assessments, corporate trainings, investigations, and responses to regulatory inquiries.
- Builds professional experience and learns the practical aspects of applied law, as well as the functions of the business.
Requirements
- 7+ Years related experience in a law firm, health plan, pharmacy benefit manager, group purchasing organization, pharmaceutical manufacturer, or related health care organization.
- Direct experience supporting pharmacy or medical rebate contracting and health care compliance and/or privacy programs preferred.

- Advanced written and oral communication skills

- Advanced legal research, analysis and drafting
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Broad healthcare contracting experience, including pharmaceutical rebate contracting
- Advanced knowledge of healthcare insurance industry, including state and federal regulatory environment, group purchasing organization and/or pharmacy benefit manager operations, etc.
- Familiarity with government healthcare programs, privacy laws, and industry-standard healthcare compliance rubrics
