About the Role

Clyde & Co is seeking an Associate to join its litigation group, focusing on insurance and civil litigation. The role involves advising clients, managing files from assessment to trial, and participating in mediations and appeals within a leading global law firm.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal analysis and advice in litigation, focusing on specialty insurance lines, professional negligence, construction, and commercial litigation.
  • Manage litigation and coverage files from initial assessment through to trial.
  • Analyze legal and factual issues to advise clients.
  • Attend examinations for discovery.
  • Prepare correspondence for counsel and clients.
  • Maintain relationships with insurers and insureds.
  • Review documents for litigation preparation.
  • Submit court filings.
  • Appear in court to argue motions and attend pre-trials and mediations.
  • Conduct solo preparations and attend trials or adjudicative hearings.
  • Attend professional and business development events.
  • Perform practice management tasks.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a recognized University or Common Law School.
  • Licensed to practice law in Ontario and a member in good standing with the Ontario Bar.
  • 2 to 4 years of post-qualification civil litigation and coverage experience.
  • Exceptional legal writing and communication skills.
  • Sound judgment, legal reasoning, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategies and communicate instructions precisely.
  • Proven advocacy talent.
  • High integrity and intellectual rigor.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and interest in building client relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
