About the Role

The Jean Tweed Centre is seeking to enhance its support for women facing substance use, mental health, and gambling concerns through its intensive Day/Residential Program. This role involves providing crucial counselling services to individuals, groups, and families, and collaborating with professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans.

Responsibilities

• Conduct client intake and assess needs to determine service plans.
• Engage women in therapeutic relationships to address substance use, concerns, and parenting issues.
• Utilize trauma-informed service strategies for women with substance use, mental health, and gambling concerns.
• Provide brief or longer-term individual and/or group counselling, employing trauma-informed approaches.
• Facilitate and co-facilitate groups, provide individual counselling, assist clients in goal development, and evaluate client progress.
• Offer referrals and linkages for additional supports, such as mental health assessments and primary care.
• Liaise with existing supports and services for clients to ensure seamless and integrated care.
• Engage in capacity building within agencies and across the mental health and substance use sector in the GTA for trauma-informed care.
• Maintain documentation of client interactions, interventions, and collateral contacts.
• Monitor client progress and prepare necessary reports and letters.
• Participate in community and service network meetings to promote program awareness.
• Attend staff meetings, team development, and supervision meetings.
• Collaborate with the supervisor to discuss job performance and establish professional goals.
• Engage in ongoing staff development and personal learning.
• Conduct job responsibilities with a commitment to harm reduction, trauma-informed, women-centred, and anti-oppressive practices.
• Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and report incidents immediately.
• Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Jean Tweed Centre.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet overall goals and objectives.
• Maintain a client service orientation, addressing client needs and concerns.
• Work collaboratively with respect, information sharing, consultation, and celebrating successes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Nursing, Psychology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent communication and writing skills.
• Working knowledge of the social service system in the designated service area.
• Proficiency in computer skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Experience providing counselling and outreach services to individuals experiencing problems related to substance use and mental health issues.
• Experience working from a harm reduction perspective.
• Experience working in community-based settings and familiarity with a community development approach.
• Demonstrated commitment to broadening knowledge and skills.

• Jean Tweed is a leading, community-based organization that provides a supportive environment for women with substance use, mental health, and gambling concerns.
• Programs address a range of issues in a woman’s life that may contribute to substance use and gambling concerns.
• The Jean Tweed Centre is building capacity to transform the level of support for women with substance use, mental health, and gambling concerns.
• The 3-week intensive Day/Residential Program is available to women to explore their goals related to substance use and/or gambling and related concerns.
• The Program includes a structured, scheduled program of treatment activities five days per week while the woman resides at home or in another setting, including the Centre’s residential supportive treatment services called Cumberland House, to assist the individual to develop skills to manage substance use and/or gambling and related problems.
