About the Role
SMRT's Interior Designer I plays a critical role in shaping high-performing environments by supporting the development and execution of interior design solutions across all project phases. This role is ideal for a designer ready to take ownership of complex projects and contribute to the advancement of SMRT’s interiors practice.
Responsibilities
- Supports the development of interior design solutions by assisting senior designers and architects with schematic layouts, finish selections, and documentation.
- Learns to apply SMRT standards and industry best practices.
- Contributes to project execution through mark-up revisions, renderings, and presentation materials.
- Assists in maintaining resource libraries and coordinating with vendors.
- Builds foundational knowledge of interior design principles, construction codes, and client engagement through active participation in design meetings, product research, and professional development activities.
- Coordinates closely with architectural teams, engineers, consultants, and vendors.
- Participates in client meetings.
- Conducts site visits to verify field conditions and evaluate design implementation.
- Builds skills around sustainable design principles and supports LEED, WELL, or similar initiatives.
- Stays current with design trends, materials, and technologies while maintaining required continuing education.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture from a CIDA-accredited program.
- Associate degree or certificate with at least 2 years of commercial interior design role.
- Technical knowledge of interior construction, codes, and documentation.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
- Skills with Bluebeam, SketchUp, Lumion, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
