About the Role
The Ticonderoga Teen Center aims to provide safe, creative, and engaging programs for youth aged 13-18. This role involves mentoring participants and reporting to the Youth & Teen Coordinator. This is a seasonal position from September to May, with a potential transfer to the Silver Bay Summer camp.
Responsibilities
- Work with a flexible weekly program offering supervised teen center activities, including lock-ins, dances, and leadership development for youth ages 13-18.
- Utilize planning and organizational skills to prepare supplies for daily activities and lead/participate in those activities.
- Meet weekly with the Youth & Teen Coordinator to discuss youth participation, review issues, and coordinate programming.
- Maintain accurate attendance records for teen participants and submit them to the Youth & Teen Coordinator.
- Participate in group training for emergency procedures and other activities scheduled by the Youth & Teen Coordinator.
- Assist the Youth and Teen Coordinator with parent/guardian communications and publications, such as monthly calendars and newsletters.
- Uphold the Silver Bay YMCA’s commitment to customer service by being punctual, prepared, and friendly to staff, youth, and parents/guardians.
- Ensure participants are signed in and their locations are known at all times.
- Oversee opening and closing procedures in the absence of the Youth and Teen Coordinator.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Youth & Teen Director.
Requirements
- Previous experience in implementing fun, meaningful, and age-appropriate programs for youth and teens is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to enforce rules professionally and positively are essential.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of staff, peers, children, volunteers, and parents.
- Willingness and ability to complete Child Abuse Prevention and other Y training within 14 days of hire.
- Strong organizational and communication skills are required.
- Basic computer skills are required.
- A valid Driver’s License is required.
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods to work at a computer or facilitate group activities.
- Ability to adjust to effectively relate to each child.
- Ability to reach, kneel, and lift 15 pounds.
