About the Role

The Life Enrichment Worker (LEW) enhances the quality of life for older adults and seniors facing complex challenges, including mental health and/or addiction issues, cognitive impairment, physical health issues, responsive behaviours, and neurological disorders. This role involves the effective delivery of recreational programming, including assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating innovative recreational, educational, or therapeutic activities to support individualized care, interpersonal relationships, and social skills.

Responsibilities

Oversee the assessment of clients to determine suitability for program participation.
Execute a therapeutic program targeted toward client needs.
Manage the assessment of physical and social needs of the client to ensure program meets client’s needs.
Observe, analyze, and record clients' participation, reactions, and progress during programs, modifying treatment programs as needed.
Counsel and encourage clients to develop leisure activities.
Work with clients’ treatment team to plan and evaluate therapy programs.
Conduct therapy sessions to improve clients' mental and physical well-being.
Instruct clients in activities and techniques designed to meet their specific physical or psychological needs.
Plan and facilitate community-based recreational, social, and wellness activities.
Work with the Program Manager to ensure personal care plans align with client needs and preferences, and monitor client progress.
Identify areas of risk and recommend or take appropriate actions.
Maintain accurate records and files on client services.
Ensure training objectives and requirements are met, providing ongoing training and development for staff, students, and volunteers.
Recognize and communicate program training needs.
Undertake special projects and tasks as assigned.
Provide other duties as assigned by Program Manager.

Requirements

Degree and/or diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or recreation with a therapeutic concentration.
Minimum 2 years’ experience with vulnerable populations living with mental illness, cognitive and neurological illnesses, addiction challenges, and/or responsive behaviours, particularly those with long-term hospital stays.
Knowledge and training in GPA.
Knowledge and proven experience working with clients in a PSR (Psychosocial Rehabilitation) approach.
Knowledge and proven experience serving Non-Binary / Gender Expansive / Transgender populations.
First Aid and CPR certification.
Ability to organize and work with individuals and groups in assessment, program planning, and problem-solving.
Ability to interact with clients in a positive and supportive manner.
Physically able to perform required duties.
Good oral and written skills.
Excellent computer skills.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Demonstrated effectiveness working with minimal supervision, with proven reliability and trustworthiness.
A valid driver’s license and access to your own vehicle.
Satisfactory vulnerable sector check (VSC).
