About the Role

Humber River Health is seeking a Rehabilitation Assistant to join their Allied Health Services Team. This role involves supporting physiotherapists and occupational therapists in delivering patient care across various units, utilizing technology and clinical expertise to improve healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for treatment and support Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in delivering care to patients across medical, surgical, and specialty units.
• Provide client-centered clinical care for assigned patients under the direction and supervision of a Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist.
• Deliver goal-oriented treatment interventions, patient/family education, and support to address physical, emotional, and self-care needs.
• Assist with patient lifting, transferring, and transporting.
• Maintain timely charting and workload measurement.
• Monitor and maintain equipment.
• Perform general equipment monitoring and departmental duties, including light cleaning and maintenance.
• Provide clinical supervision of students, including OTA/PTA students, in collaboration with the PT or OT.
• Deliver cross-coverage services, ensuring appropriate treatment for patients in post-acute services.

Requirements

• Current experience at HRH as a Rehab Assistant or a graduate from a PTA and OTA Certificate/Diploma program from a recognized institution.
• Ability to work well under supervision and maintain the delegation of responsibilities for support personnel as mandated by the Ontario College of Physiotherapists and the Ontario College of Occupational Therapists.
• Experience in an acute hospital setting preferred.
• Experience working with an active inpatient population is an asset.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills and teamwork.
• Capable of bending, stretching, and lifting while assisting patients.
• Able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
• Organized and able to complete tasks within allocated time frames.
• Able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Availability for scheduled weekend work may be required.
• Excellent attendance and discipline-free record required.
• Understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as they relate to health practices is an asset.
