About the Role
92NY School Engagement in the Arts seeks experienced dance educators to lead Discover Dance residencies in NYC public schools, fostering creativity, confidence, and an appreciation for dance in K-12 students.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead weekly Discover Dance residency sessions in NYC public schools.
- Teach grade-appropriate dance lessons through movement, choreography, creative exploration, and dance appreciation.
- Implement the Discover Dance curriculum while adapting instruction to meet the needs of individual learners.
- Adapt instruction in collaboration with classroom teachers and school staff to support students with diverse learning needs.
- Prepare students for live dance performances and facilitate meaningful pre- and post-performance learning experiences.
- Participate in required trainings, curriculum meetings, planning meetings, and professional development.
- Communicate consistently with 92NY staff, classroom teachers, and school partners.
- Arrive prepared for each residency and manage program materials and equipment as needed.
- Complete required program documentation by established deadlines, including attendance records, photos, student reflections, or other materials.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Dance, Dance Education, Performing Arts, Education, or a related field, or equivalent professional training and experience.
- Professional experience and expertise in dance education, with proficiency in Tap, Contemporary, Modern, Hip-Hop, Jazz, African Diasporic, Social Dance, or related movement traditions.
- Experience teaching rhythm-based movement, improvisation, choreography, and creative movement exploration strongly preferred.
- 3+ years of teaching experience in school, community, or youth education settings.
- Experience working in Title I Schools.
- At least 2-3 years of experience working directly with students with disabilities and/or diverse learning needs in classroom settings.
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and create accessible learning experiences for students with a wide range of abilities.
- Experience teaching in NYC public schools strongly preferred.
- Strong classroom management, student engagement, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage scheduling, administrative responsibilities, and program documentation independently.
- Availability during NYC public school hours.
- NYC Department of Education fingerprint clearance, or willingness to obtain clearance before employment.
