About the Role

Canada's National Ballet School (NBS) is seeking a contract, part-time Ballet Teacher specializing in Women's Technique & Pointe for their Young Dancers Program. This role involves delivering high-quality ballet instruction, fostering student development, preparing students for performances, and collaborating with faculty in an inclusive and creative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned Ballet and Pointe classes using the NBS curriculum, fostering technical, artistic, and personal growth.
  • Adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with program leadership and colleagues to help students reach their full potential.
  • Rehearse, stage, and prepare choreography for performances and other presentation opportunities.
  • Support students during events as required.
  • Assist with Intensive Ballet Program auditions by serving on audition panels and/or teaching audition classes.
  • Track attendance, complete written assessments and progress reports, and contribute to accurate student documentation.
  • Attend meetings, professional development opportunities, and training sessions.
  • Contribute to shared best practices and continuous program improvement.
  • Remain current with dance education best practices.
  • Uphold all NBS policies, procedures, and safeguarding standards.

Requirements

  • Teaching qualifications and/or a degree in Dance is considered an asset.
  • Five or more years of teaching experience in ballet or related dance programs.
  • Strong knowledge of classical ballet technique, with expertise in Women's Technique and Pointe.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to adapt instruction for diverse learning styles.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Collaborative mindset with flexibility, curiosity, and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • A caring, student-centred approach that nurtures confidence, artistic growth, and a lifelong appreciation of dance.
  • Sound judgement, professionalism, and discretion when working with youth and confidential information.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines, and communicate concerns in a timely manner.
  • Candidates will be asked to provide a 10–20-minute teaching video demonstrating their teaching style and interactions with students.
  • Successful candidates must supply Canada's National Ballet School with a Vulnerable Sector Check.
