About the Role
The Senior Resource Manager will act as a trusted advisor to the Practice Area Management Team, providing guidance to support effective resource management and optimizing lawyer allocation to maximize profitability and personal development.
Responsibilities
- Act as trusted advisor to Partners regarding workflow planning and resourcing, attending Partner meetings to offer strategic advice and discuss pipeline and trends.
- Ensure optimal work allocation and efficient staff deployment to maximize profitability, including cross-deployment of resources across practice areas and jurisdictions.
- Ensure fair allocations across different teams, adapting approaches to suit varied working styles and product specialisms.
- Identify appropriate workloads for associates and trainees, incorporating individual preferences and development goals.
- Provide career development, experience, and interest alignment advice to fee earners through regular 1:1 meetings and data capture.
- Identify and implement solutions for over/under capacity by promoting cross-deployment of resources.
- Ensure TOIL, holidays, administration time, and non-chargeable duties are included in planning.
- Provide forecast and utilization reports to the PAL and Partner group, plus ad hoc reports.
- Ensure the overall resourcing view is accurate and up-to-date, producing timely and targeted management information.
- Promote lower cost resourcing options by highlighting relevant skills, experience, and cost savings through alternative resource models.
- Pass on feedback on associates' performance obtained during work allocation to the HR manager.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to new trainee intakes every six months and attend individual meetings as required.
- Contribute to Diversity & Inclusion objectives through sharing insights, information, and assisting with relevant projects.
- Collaborate with Business Professional teams on resource management projects, such as AI exploration.
- Ensure a high level of pastoral care for lawyers and trainees, undergoing relevant training.
- Embrace practice area culture to determine appropriate solutions while considering firm-wide requirements.
- Be commercially minded with the ability to effect positive change in a global organization.
- Be a strong team player, sharing and adopting best practices for standardization.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing high volumes of urgent actions while maintaining accuracy and focus, ideally gained within a large, fast-paced commercial environment.
- Experience working with a broad range of stakeholders, confidently balancing competing priorities to deliver effective outcomes.
- Experience of professional career development/training or similar experience gained within a law firm with a solid understanding and appreciation of the skills and personal attributes of lawyers.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution experience.
- Excellent IT skills including thorough working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, and experience conducting online research.
- An understanding of financial fundamentals and how law firms operate would be highly beneficial.
