About the Role

As an integral member of the Cancer Rehab and Survivorship Program (CRS) and a Regulated Health Professional, the Registered Kinesiologist will be responsible for the delivery of clinical programming and education related to physical activity, exercise, and healthy lifestyle behaviours to cancer survivors.

Responsibilities

• Conducting aerobic fitness, musculoskeletal fitness, functional capacity, and body composition assessments.
• Interpreting health assessment results.
• Developing, reviewing and modifying exercise prescriptions according to patient outcomes, disease and/or treatment related considerations.
• Providing health and wellness education in a group and individualized setting.
• Conducting group and individualized exercise education sessions.
• Conducting or supervising group and individual exercise classes/sessions.
• Monitoring vital signs and responses to exercise (blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, rate of perceived exertion, signs and symptoms of over-exertion).
• Supervising/mentoring trainees and students.
• Virtual coaching for patients participating in a home-based exercise program.
• Using health coaching skills to improve adherence to exercise program.
• Discharge planning for patients upon program completion.
• Triaging referrals.
• Completing documentation in a timely manner.
• Quality assurance, administrative, and program related marketing activities.
• Liaising with members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology or equivalent.
• Master’s degree or post-graduate certificate in kinesiology or equivalent is preferred.
• At least 2 years of practical and related experience and/or 1 year on-the-job training required.
• Current registration in good standing with COKO.
• Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) certification preferred.
• Cancer Exercise Specialist/Trainer certification preferred.
• Proof of professional liability insurance.
• BCLS (C level).
• Membership with professional association (e.g. Ontario Kinesiology Association) preferred.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in exercise for clinical populations preferred.
• Excellent physical and clinical assessment skills.
• Working knowledge of adult learning principles and health coaching techniques.
• Previous experience mentoring students/volunteers an asset.
• Strong client service focus and excellent communication skills (verbal and written) required.
• Excellent computer skills with MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Epic software knowledge an asset.
• Knowledge of good clinical research practice strongly preferred.
• Ability to establish effective relationships with patients and colleagues.
• Self-directed individual with the ability to work both independently and within an interdisciplinary team.
