About the Role

Engineers/Construction Inspectors are needed to support horizontal construction projects, involving inspection of roadway reconstruction, utilities improvements, and utility infrastructure. The role requires coordination with clients and engineers, flexible scheduling, and adherence to contract documents and construction management requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with clients, contract administration, and supporting engineers.
  • Provide a flexible working schedule as project needs arise.
  • Review contract documents, permits, and construction management requirements to report contractor compliance.
  • Evaluate contractor work schedules and updates with the Project Manager.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings, check shop drawings and construction modifications.
  • Measure quantities and observe construction quality.
  • Prepare daily records of construction work.
  • Record and report problems and non-compliance with contract documents.
  • Maintain liaison and attend site meetings to anticipate work, problems, and progress.
  • Review and recommend monthly payment estimates.
  • Maintain construction "punch lists" for completion or correction.
  • Provide coordination and assistance for other requirements.
  • Supervise subordinate consultant staff and survey crew as appropriate.
  • Perform inspections for erosion and sediment control.
  • Travel locally and regionally as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience with resident engineering services, underground construction, or related work is a plus.
  • NICET Level II certification from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies.
  • Experience with erosion and sediment controls is a plus.
  • Survey and design engineering experience is a plus.
  • AutoCAD and GIS experience is a plus.
  • Experience with general construction inspection policies, procedures, and administrative requirements.
  • Working knowledge and experience with interpreting contract documents, including compliance with prevailing safety regulations.
  • Excellent public relations, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain electronic field records efficiently and accurately.
  • Ability to work well with contractors, engineers, and clients.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to provide own reliable transportation.
